Uleberg 1750 – Listed Timber Building Preserved with Foam Glass

Restoration with Glasopor’s Blowing Solution Saved the Foundation

During the restoration of the listed house Uleberg gård in Vågå, called Uleberg 1750 on the homeowners’ Instagram account, Foamit Glasopor’s blowing solution was chosen. It was a crucial decision to ensure stability, drainage and preservation of the old building.

The owner faced significant challenges with the foundation: traditional fill materials or extensive excavation could have led to the risk of subsidence and moisture damage, and the risk of damaging the listed structures. By blowing in lightweight foam glass under the floor, Foamit Glasopor provided a stable, dry and lightweight foundation — without the need for extensive intervention, and without weakening the cultural and historical integrity of the building.

The blowing solution also made it possible to carry out the work quickly and efficiently: in just two hours, the foundation was filled, after weeks of traditional manual excavation. This meant minimal intervention in the old structure and reduced risk of damaging original building parts.

In addition to technical properties — low weight, good drainage, high stability — the solution also represented an environmentally friendly choice. As is known, Glasopor foam glass is made from 100% recycled glass, and it contributes both to the preservation of cultural heritage and sustainable use of materials.

The project at Uleberg 1750 is a good example of how modern, gentle and circular materials can play a crucial role in the restoration of old, listed buildings — by combining considerations of cultural history, technical requirements and the environment.
