For example, a contractor on YIT Rakennus Oy\u2019s apartment construction site in Mankkaa has chosen Foamit as a new alternative for a conventional solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-2 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-2 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\"><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/foamit.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/VaahtolasinPuhallus07-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"830\" data-link=\"https:\/\/foamit.fi\/vaahtolasinpuhallus07\/\" class=\"wp-image-830\" \/><\/figure><\/li><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/foamit.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/VaahtolasinPuhallus02-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"829\" data-link=\"https:\/\/foamit.fi\/timi-lehtila-vas-ja-jani-rasanen\/\" class=\"wp-image-829\" \/><\/figure><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The widespread use of turnkey construction in housebuilding means that, ultimately, the contractor specifies which materials and technical solutions it wants to use on the site, although designers are also consulted for their expertise. Nowadays, self-financed construction requires an increasingly responsible approach to keeping structures and the building as a whole in good condition throughout the design life of the building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"blockquote\" class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>We also discuss environmental perspectives in project groups. We take a positive approach to products that promote the circular economy and sustainable development. Foam glass aggregate is one such product. Our first experience with the product showed it to be technically very functional, so I think it is highly likely that it will become more commonplace on our sites. <\/p><cite class=\"blockquote-footer\"><strong>Juha Muukkonen<\/strong>, responsible foreman, YIT Rakennus Oy<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Muukkonen,\nwho has more than 20 years of experience as a foreman on housebuilding sites,\nhas taken things one step at a time \u2013 he started out by gaining some experience\nusing the project. On the construction site of the Asunto Oy Klovinkukkula\nhousing company, Foamit was used as a filler for the concrete roof of the air\nraid shelter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\nfirst intended to use macadam, but we decided on Foamit because it is easy to\ntransport and spread and has good load-bearing properties. Foamit also fits in\nwith our environmental goals, so it was a natural choice,\u201d Muukkonen says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ready in an hour<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On\nthe day when the Foamit was installed on the apartment building site,\ntemperatures were well below zero. Anpe Oy sent a foam glass transportation and\npumping vehicle to the site at 8&nbsp;am. Despite the freezing conditions, it\ndid not take long to prepare for pumping and, once the pump got up to speed,\nthe structural layer was soon complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\nwas expecting installation to take a few hours. The effective installation time\nended up being less than an hour. In that time, the roofs of all four air raid\nshelters were insulated with a 20-centimetre layer of foam glass aggregate,\u201d\nJuha Muukkonen says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He\nsays that he was pleasantly surprised to learn that the new product had nothing\nbut positive features for this worksite. In addition to recyclability,\nMuukkonen values the good load-bearing capacity of foam glass aggregate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/foamit.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/VaahtolasinPuhallus02-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-829\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhichever\napplication you think of, the load-bearing capacity of a foam glass aggregate\nlayer is a huge benefit. It becomes a good platform to work on, and concrete\ncan be cast without fear of thickness fluctuations due to \u2018bubbling\u2019 in the\nplatform,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\nsite that Muukkonen is currently working on includes two apartment buildings,\nthe first of which will be completed in October 2018 and the second in February\n2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\nseems fairly certain that I will use even more Foamit on the second site.
